Miami's resident author, Dave Barry and mystery writer Ridley Pearson are alos the co-authors of a series of children's stories based on a prequel to J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan.

The Theater Up Close series at the Adrienne Arsht Center's intimate Carnival Studio Theater looks like an interesting and eclectic season of plays, but don't take our word for it, just share a quick elevator ride with some of the creatives behind the productions.
Okay we can't get enough of Robert The Doll but we throw in something new too, a chance to meet the cast of the Addams family (making stps at the Adrienne Arsht Center and The Kravis Center) this season.
Some know him as President David Palmer from the TV series 24, others remeber him from the Major League Trilogy and just about everyone knows him as the spokesman fro Allstate Insurance, but actor Dennis Haysbert has had an unprecedented career in film, television and even Broadway, in front of and behind the lens and in recognition of his accomplishments, The Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival honored him with a Career Achievement Award during FLIFF 2011.
if you didn't make it to Cinema Paradiso to see the presentation, you can watch it here:
Cast members for LOMBARDI, which opens at the Mosaic Theatre on November 10th, begin rehearsal for the Southeast US Premiere. uVu had a chance to catch up with Laura Turnbull, Ray Abruzzo (center) and Antonio Amadeo during a break from there second day together.
While Ms. Turnbull and Mr. Amadeo are familiar to South Florida theatre goers for their appearances in numerous productions (including Mosaic productions of Tom Stoppard's Rock'N'Roll and Completely Hollywood (Abridged)), fans of The Sopranos, The Practice and Dynasty will reckognize Mr. Abruzzo from his recurring roles on those series and numerous film and TV appearances.
As the Dolphin season continues to flounder (sorry), tickets to LOMBARDI will be the best opportunity to enjoy football in South Florida this Fall.
Look for the video of our talk with the cast on uVu soon.
From the Caldwell Theatre Company's season opening production of "After The Revolution"
After The Revolution Oct. 16 - Nov. 20, 2011 By Amy Herzog
After the Revolution is the story of the brilliant, promising Emma Joseph who proudly carries the torch of her family's Marxist tradition, devoting her life to the memory of her grandfather, much revered for refusing to “name names” during the McCarthy hearings. But when history reveals a shocking truth about the man himself, the entire family is forced to confront questions of honesty and allegiance they thought had been resolved. After the Revolution is a bold and moving portrait of an American family, thrown into an intergenerational tailspin, forced to reconcile a thorny and delicate legacy. In including it as one of their Top Ten Plays of 2010, The New York Times said, “Ms. Herzog’s smart, engrossing play…strikes a fresh note in being set among a family of exotic beings.
Marking the opening performance of the DANCE AT THE ARSHT season, the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County was a special two-night-only engagement of one of the most innovative and revered modern dance companies in the United States – MARK MORRIS DANCE GROUP (MMDG). An interesting Friday we had at uVu as we traveled north to the Boca Raton Museum of Art, only to enter and imaginary world courtesy of Colombian artist Federico Uribe and his fanciful world of animals (both wild and domesticated) made entirely of found objects. As he explains "People kill trees to make books, I disassemble books to make trees." In this clip meet Mr. Uribe and explore his "world."
Later that evening we grabbed a few minutes backstage at the Colony Theatre on Lincoln Road to talk with the cast of the New World School of the Arts' production of Spring Awakening
Growing up in the halls of radio studios as the daughter of two on-air personalities, Raquel A. Regalado was exposed to a wide range of characters from a young age.
That upbringing, in addition to observing her father Miami Mayor Tomás Regalado’s approach to elected office, has led her down an ambitious path: practicing patent litigation with Feldman Gale, serving the public as District 6’s school board member – which encompasses South Miami, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Miami and East Kendall – not to mention motherhood, teaching and hosting radio and television shows.
“I was given the ability from a very young age to be exposed to so many amazing public servants,” Ms. Regalado said. “As a child, perspective is so important, and I was exposed to fantastic people who were doing fantastic things. For me [public office] was always attainable because I had met those people.”
Elected to the school board in August 2010, Ms. Regalado’s priorities inc"district 6" miami-dadelude lobbying Tallahassee and Washington for more infrastructure funding, minimizing disparity between schools and placing restrictions on virtual schooling.
“If we’re going to give academic autonomy, it should come with a certain amount of responsibility,” she said. “We can’t just say every child can take a class virtually, and they’re going to have the same outcome.”
Ms. Regalado discussed key education issues affecting Miami-Dade’s students, what she has learned from her father and how she finds balance with Miami Today staff writer Jacquelyn Weiner in her downtown Miami school board building office.
