Among the dozens of films being featured at the 2011 Miami International Film Festival is the Danish drama that won the best foreign language film Oscar, "In a Better World." Director Suzanne Bier will also receive the MIFF Tribute for the movie.
The film features Christian, a young boy who moves back to Denmark after the tragic loss of his mother to cancer. Living with his grieving and withdrawn father, Christian refuses the usual pleasures of a boy his age. At his new school, he sees another boy, Elias, being bullied. Elias's own father, Anton, is a doctor who is away working on a humanitarian mission in a war-torn African nation. Weary of Anton's frequent absences, Elias's mother Marianne, has initiated divorce proceedings. Christian and Elias gravitate toward each other, finding an affinity in their shared feelings of betrayal and abandonment, and begin to strike out in disturbing, increasingly violent ways.
The screening that will take place on Sunday, March 6th, at 7 p.m. is a chance for all the Miami residents to attend an Oscar winning film. For more information, go to Miami International Film Festival.
