Florida Public Service Association Leadership Symposium

The 1st Annual Miami-Dade District Florida Public Service Association (FPSA) Leadership Symposium was held on May 24, 2010 at Jungle Island.

FPSA is a high school based club for students who are involved in the studies of Criminal Justice, Teacher Assisting and/or Firefighter Assisting.  The organization was founded in 1990 to assist teachers and students studying in these career feilds to expand the knowledge of their chosen fields by competing against others from around the state.

Miami Today Profile - Alvaro Martinez-Fonts

Alvaro Martinez-Fonts, who heads JPMorgan Florida’s private bank, has a big job.
Not because the private bank manages about $20 billion in client assets in the state or because he’s looking to turn that figure into $100 billion over the next five years.
While most states in the country and grouped into regions, Florida stands alone.

“I think it was a nod and a testimony to the potential that we see in the state of Florida to create Florida as its own region,” Mr. Martinez-Fonts said in JPMorgan’s Biscayne Boulevard offices overlooking Miami Beach and Biscayne Bay. “California is not its own region but Florida is.”

All The World is Their Stage

From the 2010 South Florida Cappies, some of the best young talent from local High Schools was on display, including performances from Les Mis, My Fair Lady and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

High Schools from both Broward and Palm Beach county participated and you can watch the entire Awards ceremony here

Counting Down to Memorial Day (clip 2)

Brigadier General Albin Irzyk  is an american hero and veteran of two wars (and West Palm Beach resident).  Irzyk served under Genarl Patton during the Battle of the Bulge and was responsible for helping liberate Belgium civilians during WW II.

In September of 2009, 65 years after he helped liberate Chaumont, a park was named in his honor.

In these clips, uVu had a chance to sit with General Irzyk and hear about his travels to Europe for the ceremony.  In Chaumont, the General discusses the reason for his travels, to visit the town where he has a park named in his honor.

Friends of Jupiter Beach Food and Wine Fundraiser

Featured is the wonderful Joanna Aiken who works for the Palm Beach Waste Authority ( don't call it the dump -its the Landfill!) Anyway they are doing some amazing things there that intrigue me like they make electricity from Garbage. I heard that dog poop makes even more power so I'm proposing a new brown buckets  on recycling day. (Together we can make a difference) 

You can see some of the Yummy Food that the local sponsors brought. Yum! Plenty of food for everyone and all courses provided for.
