Thousand of people gathered at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts on May 26, 2009 to see the premiere of the famous Broadway play Chicago.
The crowd was already excited before the curtain opened. At the first note of "All that Jazz," the crowd became silent and mesmerized by the perfectly synchronized choreography. The play started at 8 p.m. and ran for three hours with an intermission.
The actors were spectacular, full or energy and their presence on stage got everyone glued to their seats. Some were moving a long with the rhythms, others were whispering Roxy during the main character's stand up comedy routine.
When the sound of Matron Mama Morton's heels hit the ground, the audience cheered as her role was played by Colombian Sofia Vergara. She performed "When You're Good to Mama" and received much praise for it.
This play will be in Miami for one week, and it is a must see!
The original Broadway production of Chicago began in 1975. The play holdsthe record for the longest-running musical revival on Broadway. The film version won an Academy Award in 2002.
Synopsis: Murderesses Velma Kelly (a chanteuse and tease who killed her husband and sister after finding them in bed together) and Roxie Hart (who killed her boyfriend when she discovered he was leaving her) find themselves on death row together and fight for the fame that will keep them from the gallows in 1920s Chicago.
