Painted Version of Reality

Painted Version of Reality by Thibaut Fagonde explores visual artist Ed King’s world in and out of Kaleidoscope Conspiracy. His vision combines video footage and animation of King’s daily activities and inspiration in South Florida, as well as exposes the environment and daily activities of the world of Kaleidoscope Conspiracy characters. The visuals reiterate the vibrant colors of cityscapes and vegetations of South Florida.

Artist's Statement: 

"A Painted Version of Reality explores, visual artist, Ed King’s world in and out of Kaleidoscope Conspiracy. My vision was to fuse video footage and animation of Ed’s world and characters and turn it into a collage of vibrant colors and angles, while also celebrating and exposing South Florida’s diverse accoutrements. And of course keeping in mind my audience, you, the voyagers."

Inside the Center for Excellence

Jessy Schuster, host of uVu TV, tours the United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education located in the Rhodes area.  Jessy also speaks with Gladys Montes, Vice President of the United Way Center.  Montes talks about the history of the center and its role in the South Florida Community.

Meet Chris Botti

WPBT2 hosted a Meet and Greet for their members with contemporary jazz performer and trumpeter Chris Botti on April 26th at The Fillmore Miami Beach. Chris Botti’s PBS special, Chris Botti In Boston, was broadcast on WPBT2 in March and supporters of WPBT2 received tickets to the Fillmore concert and the opportunity to meet the charismatic performer.

My Suitcase Full of Hope

This new one-hour documentary, premiering on May 28 at 8:00 p.m. on WPBT2,  revisits one of the most important chapters in the history of the Cuban exile. The Freedom Flights brought several hundred thousand refugees to the shores of the United States, permanently altering the lives of those who left behind their families, their homes and their cultural identities for a chance to live in freedom. This program tells their stories. Look for some clips coming soon and be sure to watch the broadcast premiere coming in May.

FAU Day of Silence

On April 17 Boris Bastidas partnered with Carly Cass of the Resident Student Association (RSA) to hold the Day of Silence event on the Boca campus. The event aimed to raise awareness of the harassment that the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community face.

The Day of Silence is part of a national campaign for awareness that is hosted by the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). To participate, some students took a vow of silence to honor the GLBT community while some student organizations distributed information for awareness.

Military Working Dogs have played a vital role in our nation's history from WW II to present. During the Vietnam War canine soldiers and their handlers are estimated to have prevented as many as 10,000 deaths. Up until 2000 these dogs were euthanized at the end of their service. These are highly trained four footed soldiers with duties such as Sentries, Scout, Booby Trap, Tunnel, Mine and Tracker.

In 2000 public law 106-446 was passed allowing the adoption of DoD canines.

Tigertail's Wordspeak

Tigertail'sWordSpeak is an ongoing spoken word project for teens that includes workshops in writing and performing, and public events such as open mics, poetry slams and readings. Each year Tigertail's WordSpeak sends a team to the national teen spoken word slam and festival Brave New Voices. This year's WordSpeak includes a weeklong residency for teens with Mayda del Valle, a writer and performer who recounts deeply personal narratives steeped with the cadence and beats of her Puerto Rican heritage. Del Valle has also appeared on HBO's Russell Simmons Presents Def Poetry and in the Broadway version.

The Coops - AT HOME IN UTOPIA

A home of your own: thats the American dream. But what happens when the dreamers are immigrants, factory workers and Communists? Director Michal Goldman traces the history of "The Coops," a cooperative apartment complex built in the Bronx by Jewish garment workers. The film tracks the rise and fall of the community from the 1920s into the 1950s, bearing witness to lives lived across barriers of race, convention and sometimes even common sense.
