Machel Montano and the Culture of Soca
Soca superstar Machel Montano is in Miami this week for the Miami Broward One Carnival.  He will be honored with a cultural achievement award and will also be the parade's grand marshal.  We discuss the culture of soca, Montano’s career which spans more than 25 years, and how he has helped pave the way for a new generation of soca artists.

Introducing Jahfe
One of the many acts being featured at the Miami Music Festival in November is a South Florida band named Jahfe.  This up-and-coming band has been playing socially-conscious reggae music for the past five years.  We invited them on the program to share their musical philosophy and discuss how, if at all, the reggae genre has changed over the years.

Reconstruction Period for Haiti
The government of Haiti has announced the country is now moving away from its emergency phase and into a reconstruction period after being struck by a devastating earthquake six months ago.  But people returning from Haiti have said progress is still very slow.  We discuss the country’s state of affairs.

Carnival in Miami This Weekend

After 6 years of feuding, Broward's and Miami's Carnival will come together as 'One'.  The Miami-Broward One Carnival, which was one of the topics of last month's Pulse, will be this Sunday, October 11th at Miami's Bicentennial Park.
