Foodies are a bit of a fraternal group. So it only makes sense that an upcoming special edition of Check, Please! will give students from local colleges and universities the chance to chime in on their go-to spots for good grub.
We've had plenty of professors and teachers on the show. Now, it's time to hear from the undergrads who call South Florida home! (Preferably those whose dorm room floors are NOT carpeted with pizza boxes.)
If you are a college student that loves to dine out and has a strong opinion about food, here's your chance to be a food critic for a day. Just go to our website, fill out the Guest Reviewer application, and nominate your favorite top 3 South Florida spots. Tell us about the best budget-friendly dinners, the legendary college hangouts, and the must-have munchies of South Florida.
If you're not familiar with the show, boost your chances of being chosen by doing some homework before you apply. Here's a list of restaurants that have already been reviewed on the show, so make sure you don't repeat one featured in a previous episode. And click here to view some of our most recent episodes to get an idea of how the show works. Just think of it as cramming before the big exam. Deadline to apply for this special episode: August 1, 2012.
We're looking for applicants who are:
1) Actively attending a local college/university
2) Available for a mid-day taping on a date in late October/early November at our studio
3) Able to dine at 3 restaurants from the tri-county area in early October (i.e. access to transportation!)
4) Responsible and thorough in filling out paperwork and meeting deadlines for the restaurant reviews
5) Opinionated and able to discuss and describe different types of cuisines
If you fit the bill, you just may find yourself at the Check, Please! table chatting away with host Michelle Bernstein. Over the next few months, producers will be reviewing applications and conducting phone interviews to choose the three reviewers. Students must pay for dining upfront but will be reimbursed $150.00 to defray the cost of eating at the 3 restaurants. The show will be taped this Fall for an episode that will air in 2013.
