Close to a hundred restaurants have been featured on Check, Please! over the past few years. We thought it was time to give you a chance to send us updates on any restaurants that have changed hands, closed, renovated their building - or their menu...for better or for worse.
Sadly, several of the restaurants that have been featured have closed their doors for good, including Casa Bella of Dania Beach, DeVito's of Miami Beach, and Scorch of North Miami Beach.
Some, like our friends at Josef's of Plantation have closed their restaurants, but have big plans to re-open soon in a new location. Others, like Pasta And... in Margate, changed ownership shortly after they were featured, but have stayed open in the same location with the same menu.
With all these changes taking place, we'd love for you to be our eyes and ears, feeding us news on our featured restaurants when you hear about it. So here is a place to leave your feedback. Loyal viewer, Jack Gilman, recently visited Boston's in Delray Beach only to find a completely renovated restaurant with a few new menu items as well. His comments can be found below.
Calling all Beer Connoisseurs! Sublime Restaurant & Bar (formerly reviewed on Check, Please! Season 2) has an exciting event coming up with your name on it. From 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 20th, you'll get the chance to taste over a dozen craft beers from some of the country's best microbreweries. Alongside the beers, enjoy Sublime's housemade kettle chips and pretzel bites.
We've got two pairs of tickets to give away for this fun evening of brews! Leave a beer-related comment on our Facebook page Wall between now and 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, 10/18, and you will automatically be entered into a drawing for a pair of tickets. (Only one entry per person.)
Winners will be announced on FACEBOOK Wednesday morning.
(Tickets can also be purchased here.)
Cheers!
After our exceedingly delicious - and very successful - tasting event in May at the WPBT2 studios, we heard from several viewers asking for an event in Broward. (You know who you are!) So, we have decided to take to the road with our next shindig. The Check, Please! South Florida Tasting Tour will take place on Tuesday evening, November 8, 2011.
Hosted by chef Michelle Bernstein and Paul Castronovo of the Paul & Young Ron show, this progressive party will transport you to 5 different restaurants in the Ft. Lauderdale area, where you can taste some exciting menu items and sip on wines or specialty drinks, while mixing and mingling with dozens of other local foodies. No need to worry about the hassles of driving and parking. We've got two private charter busses reserved just for you (and 99 of your closest friends).
Tickets go on sale to the public at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, October 3rd. (Check out a special episode of Check, Please! South Florida, which will air at that same time on WPBT2, to get the scoop on all the details of the event.) Tickets are extremely limited. They are $125 each and available only at checkpleasefl.com.
All proceeds go toward the continued production of Check, Please! South Florida on WPBT2. So kill two birds with one stone - enjoy an exciting evening of food, while supporting your favorite restaurant review show. We want to keep bringing you the dish on South Florida's dining gems, recommended by regular people like you!
Participating restaurants for the Tasting Tour include Rocco's Tacos & Tequila Bar, Coco Asian Bistro & Bar, Canyon Southwestern Cafe, Sublime Restaurant & Bar, and the 11th Street Annex. (The last stop includes dessert, coffee, and a street party put on by those lovely ladies who call themselves "the two ugly sisters." They're longtime caterers, and we hear they know how to put on a party!)
Our sponsors for this fun-filled evening include the Florida Restaurant & Lodging Association, Miami-Dade chapter, Southern Wine & Spirits, Ste. Michelle Wine Estates, Terressentia, and El Carajo International Tapas & Wines. We're grateful for their generous support and assistance in making this an evening to remember!
Now, all we need is YOU! Hope to see you there!
