KidVision Leaps into Discovery

On February 29th WPBT/Channel 2's KidVision along with A Place of Our Own / Los Niños en su Casa, BP, The Parent Academy and the Miami Science Museum worked together in creating a free night at the museum for families in Miami. Leap into Discovery was the theme, and as all the parents and children entered they were immediately in the world of discovery with the dinosaur exhibit all over the museum.

PBS LAUNCHES PBS KIDS PLAY! BETA TEST


New educational Internet service will help children learn a comprehensive curriculum by playing computer-based activities with PBS KIDS characters.
 
ARLINGTON, VA, JANUARY 15, 2008 – Beginning today, PBS is opening the beta test for a new Internet-based educational service designed to provide children ages 3 to 6 with a comprehensive early childhood curriculum. PBS KIDS PLAY!, which will be offered as a subscription service later this calendar quarter, uses interactive games and activities to provide a personalized learning experience at home. The PBS KIDS PLAY! Beta is currently available as a download from www.pbskidsplay.org and requires a high-speed Internet connection to use.

KidVision cultivates summer learning!

Kids may be out of school for the summer, but there’s still plenty of ways to keep on learning. KidVision and PBS continue to educate young viewers in fun and exciting ways.  Among the highlights - Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres will visit Sesame Street!
What's the Word on the Street? Starting August 13, the word on SESAME STREET is "literacy." SESAME STREET’s 38th season addresses the ongoing need for early literacy skills such as vocabulary, rhyming, and letter sounds. Each new episode begins with a "'What's the Word on the Street?" interview with people and animals of all ages who introduce and define the day's "Word on the Street." These words, such as "tricycle," "predicament" and "squid" are repeated later in the show as part of the “street” scene and in a series of hilarious celebrity clips in which stars such as Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres help explain the meaning of the day's word.
As always, new episodes of SESAME STREET also embrace pop culture with comic parodies such as "A's Anatomy," and "Meal or No Meal," and well known celebrity guests including Grammy nominated hip-hop artist, Chris Brown and CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper. All new street scenes such as "Amazing Alphabet Race" and "The Letter P Game," music, animation and live action films add to the mix -- all designed to educate, delight, and help children be better prepared for school.

KidVision and Mother's Day

On Saturday we had a terrific turnout at the Young At Art's Children's Festival of the Arts. This annual event has grown too big for the parking lot outside the Museum (which if you've never been to, you simply must) off of SR84 and Hiatus in Davie.
Despite the heat and more than faint hint of smoke in the air, hundreds of our youngest viewers turned out to make paper flowers for their Moms.
Again, thanks to all the great volunteers who turn out to help at these events, we really can't manage without  them. 

And of course to Maya and Miguel for showing up as well.

A Day At Metrozoo

On Sunday, April 29 Kidvision had a special event just for Kid Club Members at the Miami Metrozoo. Over 160 kids and adults enjoyed music, games, food and a fun filled day at the zoo. We had various activities which included coloring, dancing, parachute and balls throwing, and a special guest appearance from Curious George. Lastly, we had a live show of Delu African dancers. It was a wonderful cultural performance.   

Every year Kidvision hosts a special day just for its members.

KidVision at the BookFest

This is a big weekend for KidVision here at Channel 2, tomorrow (Sunday April 29) is KidVision Day at the Miami MetroZoo and today was Broward County's 2nd Annual Children's Bookfest.

At libraries across Broward County, KidVision kids got a chance to make arts & crafts projects, see puppet shows, hear stories and at the Weston Branch, meet some of their favorite KidVision characters.
Maya and Miguel, Clifford and Curious George were on hand to pass out stickers, bookmarks and promote early reading.  It was a great event and lots of fun for the staff as well.  It is really special when you see the delight in a little one's eyes as their favorite characters walk into the room.  Our volunteers got a kick out of entertaining the kids too.
