Works of William Shakespeare (abriged) [revised]

Reed Martin, Austin Tichenor and Matt Rippy are bringing crazy laughter to Miami with “The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised],” a 97-minute race through the Bard’s 37 plays. The play would be at the Arsht Center Nov 26 to Jan 18. The three actors gave uVu a unique interview.

Happy Thanksgiving from WPBT/Channel 2

At this time of year it is important to take a little time and reflect on all we do have to be thankful for, even in challenging times.

 

Here at WPBT/Channel 2, we are grateful to all our friends who allow us into their homes each week.  We are thankful for the opportunity to open new worlds of adventure, intrigue and wonder.

 

We also want to make sure we have the chance to continue providing our programming to all and we would like to take this time to make sure everyone is prepared for the transition to Digital Television.  If you aren’t sure if you are ready, please visit our website and get some answers before February 17, 2009.

 

Once you are sure you are ready, we have one last favor to ask, as you visit with friends and family this holiday season, please make sure that everyone you know is prepared as well.  If you have senior neighbors or family members, take the time to check for them, if you know of families with young children, please make sure they are aware of the impending change.

 

We at Channel 2 want to make sure that all south Floridians continue to receive television in their homes, especially those who count on it most.

 

Thanks again for watching and sharing your time with Channel 2, we can never fully express how thankful we are, but we hope our best wishes for the season is a good place to start.

uVu at Speaking of Women’s Health

The sixth annual Speaking of Women’s Health took place at the Signature Grand in Davie on November 22^nd. uVu had a booth at the event and interviewed several attendees. 

Ready for DTV?

DTV Update: According to Nielsen, U.S. households are inching closer to being ready for the digital transition on February 17, 2009. Nielsen released the November 2008 preparedness update and 7.4% of U.S. households continue to be completely unready; compared to 7.7% in October 2008. Households partially ready have decreased to 10.3% in November; compared to 10.7% in October.  

Will Smith and Rosario Dawson on uVu

Red Carpet events are not always as much fun as they seem. Although the end results are pleasant and the feeling of being one of the few to interview an artist is exhilarating, it is not always a good experience. Let’s take for example the last Red Carpet attended by the uVu team : the Seven Pounds movie premiere at the AMC theatre in South Miami.

The crew arrived at 4.45 p.m. Dozen of television network, newspaper and radio stations were on site to set up. Fans were lined up already and some live trucks were on the side of the road.  The event was planned to start at 5 p.m. Two hours and thirty minutes later, Will Smith and Rosario Dawson arrived. The fight between anchors and cameraman started at the same time. Who would get a better picture? Who will get an interview? Packed like sardines in a can, we were all lined up behind the red rope, trying to get a decent shot of the stars. E!Online was the fist to interview Smith, then Channel 7 and uVu was third.

THE PRIESTS IN CONCERT AT ARMAGH CATHEDRAL

The Priests — three Roman Catholic clergymen from Northern Ireland: brothers Eugene and Martin O’Hagan and their close childhood friend David Delargy — are trained vocalists brought together by their faith and passion for music. Performing at Armagh, one of Ireland’s most prestigious cathedrals, The Priests are accompanied by a full orchestra and choir on some of the world’s best-loved songs, including “Ave Maria,” “Pie Jesu,” “O Holy Night,” “Gloria,” “Panis Angelicus,” “Irish Blessing” and “Be Still My Soul.” Joining the trio are legendary flutist Sir James Galway and Moya Brennan of Clannad.

The audience also will witness the evolution and debut of the new vocalists as they work with Yanni and Wake in the studio and rehearse for the concert special.

New WPBT/Channel 2 Program Chronicles the Censorship Struggles of Comedic Icons Tom and Dick Smothers

In true Smothers Brothers’ fashion, filmmaker Maureen Muldaur’s examination of the rise and fall of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour is both light-hearted and critical. Pioneers in the use of social commentary on primetime television, the story of the Smothers Brothers’ highly publicized battle for artistic freedom against CBS censors comes to Channel 2 on Friday, November 28, 2008 at 10:00 p.m. SMOTHERED: THE CENSORSHIP STUGGLES OF THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS COMEDY HOUR, distributed by American Public Television, is a well-balanced documentary featuring hilarious clips from The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, and interviews with the performers, writers and network executives embroiled in the controversy.    

The program follows the development of The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour from its 1967 premiere as an underdog variety show to its contentious elimination from the CBS lineup in 1969. Scenes from the show’s three seasons and commentary from Tom and Dick Smothers and their creative team convey the comic genius and acute social consciousness that compelled the Smothers Brothers to resist the conservative censorship of CBS’s Department of Program Practices.

Jazz Roots- Paquito D'Rivera

Grammy-winning jazz saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera participated in a Q&A session with 170 Miami Dade County jazz music students at the Adrienne Arsht Center. D’Rivera was the first artist to perform at the six-part Jazz Roots concert series that kicked off November 7, 2008.
